Picture of Dorian Greek House in Kamloops

A strong beginning

Jim and Diane Dokolas are the owners and creators of the Dorian Greek House Restaurant and they invite you into their Greek House to experience a genuinely ethnic Greek meal.

Although they opened the Dorian Greek House in 2002, the Dokolas’ have owned and run restaurants in Kamloops for over 34 years and they have dining guests that have followed them from restaurant to restaurant, creating what Diane calls, “family”.

And this “family” will tell you that the reason for their loyalty is that they know what to expect from the Dokolas’. They know that they’ll be made welcome by Diane’s smiling face and experience her ever gracious hospitality. Diane doesn’t think of visitors to the Greek House as customers, but as guests, and that’s the way everyone is treated. They know they’ll be looked after by skilled, friendly and professional servers. And they know that with Jim in the kitchen every meal prepared that day will be delicious in aroma and taste, generous in portion, and Greek through and through.

Jim was raised in the Greek farming village of Zizani in the Kalamata region of Greece. He started working on the family farm at a very young age helping his family to farm mostly olives as well as grapes. And staying true to his heritage, Jim still uses only Kalamata olives and olive oil in his cooking, while sourcing out a number of his ingredients from Greek delicatessens.

The Dokolas’ have listened and stayed true to guest input. Their menu continues to be traditional homemade ethnic Greek food with favourites such as fall-off-the-bone tender rack of lamb; calamari that guests call “amazing”, and the dessert favourite? Baklava! Jim’s mother regularly made baklava and Jim makes his baklava from scratch using the family recipe. It’s not common to find in-house homemade baklava in a restaurant, so guests are delighted by this treat which has become a menu favourite.
